The popular pirate site extreme-down was officially shut down by ACE.
Extreme Download (Extreme-Down.com) was a popular streaming website in Europe, with over 14 million monthly visitors.
This website focused on French language content and was extremely popular in France.
Extreme-Down was reportedly France’s second most popular illegal streaming and direct download site.
This pirate site offered links to thousands of on-demand movies and TV episodes.
But as we’ve seen with other popular pirate sites in the past, all “good things” must come to an end.
Extreme down shutdown by ACE
After providing a safe haven for illegal downloads for many years, Extreme-Down – one of the internet’s most notorious pirate sites – closed this week without warning or explanation.
The domain was first registered in 2005 and changed hands several times over the next 15 years.
Like other successful sites, Extreme-Down regularly switched to new domains. Even if the reasons weren’t always clear, rightsholders rarely got past legal action.
Some of these domains were extreme-down.lol, extreme-down.video, extreme-down.tv, extreme-down.pro, extreme-down.live and others.
Extreme-Down’s last owner was French, and before its sudden closure, the site had grown to attract millions of visitors each month.

Various copyright owners had tried for years to take down Extreme-Down, sending complaints to hosting companies and payment processors to curb illegal activity, but their efforts largely fell on deaf ears. That is until now.
The anti-piracy organization ACE (Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment) claimed that their relentless pursuit of justice was responsible for the shutdown of the notorious pirate site.
When you visit the original domain (Extreme-Down.com), you will now see the following screen.
This came as no surprise. In addition to two prominent streaming portals, ACE has successfully taken down high-profile sources such as Torrent9 and Cpasbien as well as numerous other smaller sources in recent years.
ACE Executive Vice President Jan van Voorn commented on the closure:
“Extreme-down offered a large library of TV series and films in French and original language; We have counted more than 40,000 episodes of movies and TV series affecting ACE members. This library is now closed. The elimination of this website is a great achievement for the protection of rights holders in French-speaking countries.”
Unfortunately for those who have been visiting these websites to download content illegally, there seems to be a trend year after year that more and more illegal resources are being shut down every day by organizations like ACE and others that support them worldwide.
However, despite this reality, it looks like it would take a lot more than that to prevent all pirate sites from popping up – although it might be impossible to ever completely prevent them.
This isn’t the first time notable websites have been shut down, either by anti-piracy authorities or voluntarily.
