Europe just lost its closest answer to Walmart’s Onn streaming devices.

StreamView GmbH, the Austrian distributor behind Thomson-branded Google TV streamers and televisions, has filed for bankruptcy in the Vienna Commercial Court. The filing comes only days after StreamView and brand owner Established Inc. extended their licensing deal through 2040.

According to the Alpenländischer Kreditorenverband, StreamView has racked up roughly €36.6 million in debt and does not plan to keep operating. Investor talks reportedly fell apart after a single Chinese supplier demanded immediate payment on outstanding balances, cutting off shipments.

Why This Hurts European Cord-Cutters

Since 2024, Thomson’s Streaming Box Plus 270 (a rebadged 1st-gen Onn 4K Pro) and its sibling sticks gave European buyers something the rest of the continent never had: a cheap, modern Google TV device that punched well above its price.

With StreamView gone, support, warranty service, and future inventory are all in question. If you own one, it’ll keep working, but I wouldn’t expect software updates or replacements anytime soon.

If you visit Thomson’s website you will find that all of their streaming devices are now ‘sold out.’

Established says after-sales service will continue and a new European partner is being sourced. Until that lands, the Thomson lineup is effectively orphaned.

It’s frustrating to watch the one brand giving Europeans a real Onn-style value play collapse a week after locking in a 15-year licensing extension. Affordable, well-made Google TV hardware shouldn’t be this hard to find outside the U.S.
